Africa on my mind

Thinking about Africa again tonight. It's hard to believe that I'm going back, and this time for almost 2 months! In 2008 I went with Global Expeditions to Madagascar on a three-week trip and it changed my life. Now, this summer, I'm going back to Africa with Global Expeditions, this time to South Africa and Zambia! It is going to be an extreme challenge, but I'm looking forward to all that God is going to do not only in my own life, but in the lives of my team and the people we meet there. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to reach out and serve across the world. I will admit at times I start to get scared, but then God's peace surrounds me because I know that he's got my back, and that the safest place I can be is in His will.
Countdown to Africa: 53 days.

Inspired by a friend, I experimented with some beads today and made a necklace in the shape of Africa! I thought it might be a cool to make more and try to sell some to raise funds for my trip, but I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in buying one. I think it's cool, but not sure if anyone would wear them. Here's a few pictures!

The first picture is my original, and the last is the same thing but with a card-stock background.
The reason I tried a background is because the wire I have is so thin that the shape wasn't holding, so it was to keep it together. I might go buy some thicker wire and make some more without the background. What do you think? I supposed these could also be ornaments to hang on the tree, or windowsill, or anywhere really! Just as a reminder to remember and pray for those in Africa.

Outside Temp: 57°F (We had a very windy day today...hoping for some rain but none has come yet!)

Verse of the day:
Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.
Psalm 37:5-6

  1. Wow! That's a really awesome necklace! You should definitely try it with stronger wire; it looks better without the cardstock. I think they would probably sell - they're really neat.

  2. You could do them in different colors, too!

  3. Thanks for the feedback, Mara! I really appreciate it! I was liking the one without the background more, too, so it's nice to have another opinion.
I will definitely go get some thicker wire and try some new colors and see what happens!
